October 2011 Tagged, a new short film to help educate young people about cyberbullying, sexting and protecting their digital reputation has been launched.
Senator Stephen Conroy launched the film, saying "... we are committed to working with schools, parents and young people to help teenagers be smart online and to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to safely enjoy the benefits of the internet."
“We have committed $125.8 million to our Cybersafety Plan, which is a comprehensive strategy to combat online risks to children and help parents and educators protect children from inappropriate material."
"Tagged was developed by Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) under this plan. It is a valuable film that I encourage all young people and teachers to see.”
Tagged can be viewed online now at www.cybersmart.gov.au/tagged or can be ordered for free from the Cybersmart website. The film is accompanied by lesson plans, activities and character interviews for use in schools which promote positive online behavior.
Senator Conroy also announced that one of the government's most successful online resources – the Cybersafety Help Button – is now available as a mobile phone download.
“The Cybersafety Help Button has already been downloaded on over 280,000 computers across Australia, and from today can be downloaded onto Android smart phones. It will soon be available for iPhones, Windows phones and Blackberry devices,” he said.
The Help Button can also be installed directly onto your internet browser. Applications are available for Internet Explorer and Google Chrome – with Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari coming soon.
