Wakakirri is a national story sharing festival for Australian schools, with an emphasis on education through the arts. There are a range of categories through which primary school students can enter their stories: Story-Dance; Story-Film; Story-Writing; Story-Arts & Story-Singing.
Stories are shared through live performances, red carpeted film premieres, national television screenings, an annual anthology publication, a fantastic interactive website and more. There are great prizes and judges, including authors Andy Griffiths & Jackie French. Each year over 20,000 students participate in Wakakirri. In 2011, there is also a film festival section for secondary schools.
Schools should head to the website to register their interest and to receive information and updates. Film, Art, Writing & Singing entries are due by the 5th of August. The live performance Story-Dance category closes for entry at the start of April each year.
