Australian school students with a passion for music will benefit from new Australian Government funding for the ‘Rock the Schools’ project, with $400 000 being provided to help bring music tours and workshops into more schools next year.
Rock the Schools is a free education and entertainment initiative which helps music-loving students learn about careers in the industry, using workshops by music industry professionals and concerts with emerging Australian bands.
“From my own experience I know what a difference it makes to hear first-hand from those already working and succeeding in the music industry,” School Education Minister Peter Garrett said.
“Rock the Schools is a fantastic program that helps the musicians of tomorrow nurture their talent and follow their dreams. This extra funding will improve the service and ensure more students have access to this initiative both in school and online, at no cost to the school or parents," he said.
The funding provided by the Australian Government will help Rock the Schools take its tours into more schools, hold a high school band competition, develop a new comprehensive social media strategy and hold more events for communities. Rock the Schools also supports up and coming Australian bands and emerging talent.
Peter Garrett has been patron of Rock the Schools for five years.
