'In a Burton Wonderland' Art Competition - Closes 13 August

To celebrate Tim Burton’s visit to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image for the opening of Tim Burton: The Exhibition, ACMI is holding an online exhibition for local artistic talent, the best works of which will be selected by Tim Burton.

The exhibition called In a Burton Wonderland invites budding artists to submit original art and photography inspired by Tim Burton and his extensive creative output.

ACMI Screen Events Manager, Helen Simondson, is enthusiastic about local creatives coming out of the woodwork for this opportunity.

“ACMI wants to tap local creativetalent to construct a fantastical online gallery of Burton-inspired artwork,” she said. “Whether it be images of your drawings, cartoons, paintings, sculptures, costume creations or photographic works, we want to see what you can come up with for our online Burton-inspired Wonderland.”

ACMI curators first will select the artworks to appear online but Tim Burton himself will select his top ten artworks! Tim’s shortlist will then be thrown open to the public to vote for the top piece, which will win a prize.

Submissions are open to all levels, ages, mediums and styles of visual artists, with a limit of two artworks per person submitted. The gallery requires static works for display, so music or video works are not eligible. First and foremost, the artwork needs to be original and copyright held by the artist.

To be part of ACMI’s online In a Burton Wonderland gallery and for the chance to win the top prize, artworks must be submitted online at by 5pm (AEST) on the spookiest date in the calendar - Friday 13 August, 2010.
